Our Story

Hey there, I’m Mia, and I'm thrilled to share the story of Little Okie Loaves with you. Nestled in the heart of Oklahoma, my little at home bakery has become a place where passion for sourdough goodies meets community love.

My journey with sourdough started as a simple hobby during my time at home for the summer. Mixing flour, water, and a lot of patience, I fell in love with the magic of sourdough—the way it transforms from a bubbling starter to a beautifully risen loaf.

The encouragement and compliments from friends and family pushed me to take a leap of faith. I started baking more seriously. It was incredible to see how something as simple as bread could bring so much joy to others.

Quality is everything to me. I use the best ingredients I can find, and I'm proud to support local farmers and businesses whenever possible. Each loaf of sourdough is a labor of love, from nurturing my starter, which I affectionately call Rori, to carefully shaping and baking each batch.

Studying Strategic Communications has also been a huge help. It’s taught me how to tell my bakery’s story authentically and connect with our community through social media.

Come join me on this adventure of Little Okie Loaves, where every slice tells a story of passion, community, and the joy of homemade bread.

About the Baker: Mia Merciez

Hey there, I'm Mia Merciez, and I'm thrilled to share a bit about myself with you. Born and raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, I've always had a deep love for my home state's rich culture and warm hospitality. Now, as a 19-year-old student pursuing a degree in Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State University (OSU), I'm also finding my passion in the world of artisanal baking.

My journey with baking started as a hobby with loving an alternate bread without yeast. Mixing flour, water, and sourdough starter became a therapeutic escape, a way to create something tangible and delicious. What began as a simple hobby soon blossomed into something more profound as friends and family encouraged me to share my creations with others.

At OSU, I'm not just focused on academics and baking—I'm also a proud member of the Collegiate Ranch Horse Versatility team with my horse, Pinky. Starting this fall, I am excited to embark on this new opportunity to “Ride for the Ranch.”

Studying Strategic Communications has opened my eyes to the power of storytelling and connecting with others. It's not just about baking bread; it's about sharing stories, creating memories, and building a community around something we all love. Through social media, I'm able to showcase my passion for baking and connect with fellow baking enthusiasts and local residents.

As I continue to juggle my studies, riding sessions with Pinky, and baking adventures at OSU, I'm excited about the future. Whether it's expanding my bakery, Little Okie Loaves, or exploring new avenues in communications and horsemanship, I'm eager to see where my passions will lead me.

So, whether you're a fellow OSU student, a neighbor from Bartlesville, or someone passing through Stillwater, I invite you to join me on this exciting journey. Together, let's celebrate the joy of homemade bread and the beauty of sharing our passions with the world.

Mia Merciez, a baker, equestrian, and proud Oklahoman, where every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and bake with love.

And of course… GO POKES!
